My Review of MIB International (2019)

This review contains some spoilers for MIB International
When I first saw the trailer for this film it was on YouTube so I initially thought that maybe it was a mashup of other films or a fan made trailer, as it turned out it wasn’t so I was quite excited about going to see it. Before I went to see the film I read that some reviews of the film were bad and heard from people that had already seen it that it wasn’t the best film, I went and saw it anyway because for me I want to be entertained so as long as I find it entertaining I don’t mind if it is not a great film. MIB International was one of those films for me.
I thought the main characters in this film Agent H (Chris Hemsworth), Agent M (Tessa Thompson), High T (Liam Neeson) and Agent O (Emma Thompson) were quite good and very likable, and the actors and actresses who played them did a good enough job that if a sequel is ever done they should be included in it. More specifically Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson had a good rapport on screen even though their characters had a rocky start to their partnership and by the end of the film were worthy successors to the two main characters from the previous films (Agent K played by Tommy Lee Jones and Agent J played by Will Smith).
That being said I can see why some reviews of the film have been bad and why people have thought it was not the best, I think this is down to the script and not the characters or the actors and actresses who played them. If a sequel was done or this film was going to be remade, they should make it just a little bit more serious but still with the humour present in this one and previous films in the franchise.

Elements of the plot in this film were quite good such as there being other branches of the MIB throughout the world (the one depicted in the film being located in London, England), another one was that MIB is not perfect because A) two of their agents didn’t make sure everyone that needed to be had there memories wiped (thus leading to the events of the film) and B) their organization was infiltrated. Some of the elements of the film were not so good such as the humour, this was funny but there was just a bit too much of it (it seemed like the director and script writers were trying to do something similar to the Deadpool films). Another was the overall plot of the film which seemed quite similar to the one of Men in Black 3 minus the Time Travel aspect.
If I were to rate this film I would give it a 6 out of 10 because while some reviews of it might be bad and some think it is not the best film, I went to see it wanting to enjoy it and to be entertained which both happened. I also think that this film has enough potential that in future they could make a direct sequel or a spinoff set somewhere else in the world following another branch of the Men in Black, though I would like to see Tessa Thompson and Chris Hemsworth make an appearance in any future film that is made.
