My Review of Billy Connolly’s Route 66
Having
watched the TV show I thought it would be interesting to read the book version,
and I have to say that it was very enjoyable to read and just as good as the
show.
One
of things that I liked about it was that it had some things that Billy Connolly
saw and did along Route 66 which didn’t make it into the show, which I thought
were still interesting even though he didn’t think much of them (I can see why
they didn’t make it into the show), and if I were every lucky enough to travel
along Route 66 on my own journey I don’t
think I would visit those places ether. That being said there were other things
that I liked about the book such as that if you were traveling along the same
route you could almost use the book as a guide for what things to do and what
places to go as you make your way from Chicago, Illinois to Los Angeles,
California.
When
I think about it the book is not really that different than the TV show in
terms of what is in it, it mostly follows what happens in the show such as when
Billy stops at the Grand Canyon but also has some more detail about certain
events on his journey such as his trike accident and its aftermath. This is
good because it acts as a companion to the show and makes it just as
interesting and enjoyable to read as the show is to watch, which is also good
because its kind of sad when either the TV show / movie or the book isn’t as
good as the other version (which has been the case with some of the movie
versions of some of the books I have read).
If
I had to rate this book I would give it an 8 out of 10 because while it is
interesting and enjoyable to read as well as just as good as the TV show, it at
times feels like you are watching an episode of the show again not long after
you last watched it. That being said if you like Billy Connolly, travel and Route
66 I highly recommend renting or buying the show or getting the book from your
local library. See a short clip from Billy Connolly’s Route 66 below.
